The Penneshaw Penguin Centre opened in 1996 and is owned by the Kangaroo Island Council. Numerous owners have managed the centre, cared for the habitat of the Little Penguins surrounding the Centre and ran the tour operations.
Currently penguin and wildlife walking tours operate nightly (Friday- Tuesday nights) with varying tour times, according to sun setting times. The night tour is an informative, yet relaxed and a must-do activity for people staying the night in Penneshaw. A small number of Little Penguins reside in Penneshaw most of the year and generally are only seen at night. Other wildlife that can be seen on the tour include: wallabies, possums, snakes, spiders, and other sea birds.
